Comprehensive understanding of new generation display technology micro LED

On April 14, Beijing time, according to China touch screen news, Apple's new iPhone will adopt OLED panel to ignite the topic. OLED seems to be a new power of the next generation panel technology. However, OLED's own technical burden is actually difficult to completely replace LCD. Micro LED technology is in the future, which is expected to break the limitation of OLED and become a real killer application to completely replace LCD, Apple and some Taiwan factories have already started a new wave of layout.


OLED can improve the LCD panel thickness, need to match the backlight module adjustment, poor black contrast and other problems, and achieve high ratio. However, OLED must reduce the white picture and high brightness display to achieve power saving effect. The wide color gamut characteristics of OLED are not far behind KSF or quantum dots. However, micro LED is composed of a large number of micro LED arrays. In addition to high brightness, ultra-high resolution and color saturation, each pixel can be driven independently, and it also has the advantages of power saving and fast response.


Micro LEDs have not yet been officially commercialized, and there are still technical bottlenecks to be broken. In this micron level competition, in addition to making tens of microns of LEDs, manufacturers have to compare how to transfer these tiny LEDs to the substrate, how to bond them, how to drive the circuit, and finally how to make the cost of general display technology 3-4 times higher.
